Carers are people who take on responsibility to provide care for a person who requires support. Support can range from daily living support to assistance with independence such as transport and finances.
Carers Australia is the national peak body representing Australia’s carers, advocating on behalf of Australia’s carers to influence policies and services at a national level. It works collaboratively with partners and its member organisations, the network of state and territory Carers Associations, to deliver a range of essential national carer services.
Carers NSW (New South Wales)
Carers NSW is an association for relatives and friends caring for people with a disability, mental illness, drug or alcohol dependency, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail. Carers NSW are the peak organisation for carers in NSW and the only statewide organisation that has carers as its primary focus. Carers NSW are a non-government, non-profit, non-political organisation incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act (NSW), governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

Carers ACT (Australian Capital Territory)
Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail-aged. Carers ACT is a member of the National Network of Carers Associations. We are a non-government, not-for-profit association that relies on public and private sector support to fulfill our mission with, and on behalf of, carers. We work closely with government and other support organisations to improve the lives of caring families and individuals throughout the ACT.
Carers QLD (Queensland)
Carers Queensland represents the diverse needs and interests of carers in Queensland. We empower carers by providing carers with information, education, training, advocacy, counselling and other support services that may assist them in their caring role. We also aim to raise awareness about the valuable role that carers play.
Carers VIC (Victoria)
Carers Victoria provide care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail aged. Carers Victoria work closely with government and other support organisations toimprove the lives of caring families throughout Victoria.
Carers NT (Northern Territory)
Carers NT is the key organisation representing the Northern Territory’s estimated 30,000 family carers, who provide:
‘Unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail.’
Formed in 1992 Carers NT is an incorporated body which exists, according to our constitution to:
- Improve the health, wellbeing , resilience and financial security of carers; and
- Promote the recognition of caring as a shared responsibility of family, community, business and government
Carers NT operates from offices in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs with a budget of approximately $5m per annum, employs 38 (fte) staff, and provides services to individual carers across the Territory as well as advocating on behalf of all Territory carers
Carers TAS (Tasmania)
Carers Tasmania provide care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail and aged.
Carers WA (Western Australia)
Carers WA is a non-profit, community based organisation and registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of the estimated 310,000 family carers living in Western Australia. Part of the National Network of Carers Associations, we are the peak body recognised by both State and Federal governments as the voice of family carers. Carers WA represents carers interests in the Western Australian community.
Carers SA (South Australia)
Carers provide care and ongoing support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail aged.
We consult with carers and work closely with government and other support organisations to improve the lives of caring families throughout South Australia.
Carer Support (South Australia)
Carer Support has provided services to Carers in the South and East Metropolitan areas of Adelaide for 20 years. We are funded by state and federal governments.
Working Carers Gateway (New South Wales)
Working carers are people who juggle paid employment with unpaid caring. They may care for a child, relative or friend who needs help because they are ill, frail, have a disability or are ageing.
Working carers are men and women of all ages. They come from diverse backgrounds and may work full-time, part-time, have a casual job or be self-employed. Caring responsibilities may affect their ability to cope at work, and work responsibilities may affect their ability to provide care. Recognition and support from employers, governments, service providers, and family and community members is important.
Together Support Groups (New South Wales)
The together program provides opportunities for existing and new support groups (for carers of people with disability in New South Wales) to be linked in with each other and an organisation to receive some assistance.
Pole Depot Community Centre (New South Wales)
We partner with Carers to improve their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing; as a result, their quality of life is enhanced.
Sutherland Shire Carer Support Service Inc (New South Wales)
SSCSS was established in 1996 to provide assistance to carers in the Sutherland Shire. To help them in their caring role, the SSCSS organises support groups and educational programs for carers and provides information to groups and individuals about respite and other services available.
SSCSS aims to improve the quality of life of unpaid carers by supporting them in their role in caring for a relative or friend who is frail or has a disability.
My Aged Care (New South Wales)
The My Aged Care website has been established by the Australian Government to help you navigate the aged care system. The Gateway is part of the Australian Government's changes to the aged care system which have been designed to give people more choice, more control and easier access to a full range of aged care services.
NSLHD Carer Support (New South Wales)
We provide information, education and advice to assist Carers in their caring role. We can help carers navigate the Health, Community Health and Community Care systems to find the right services in the Northern Sydney Region.
